The Cinematography Life

What’s the point of a seemingly pointless movie? That wonderful and frustrating phenomenon of sitting through a whole 2+ hour movie, only to get to the end, and realize you just wasted 2+ hours of your life that you can never get back. I’ve seen a few movies like that, and just recently watched one that was particularly pointless. I won’t even bother to mention what it was, to save you the time and energy of watching it yourself, because I know you all are optimists and you think that it couldn’t be all THAT bad, right?

In a way, you’re right. There’s good in everything, if we only choose to see it. This movie was peppered (I love using that word in non-cooking contexts) with swear words, was long, had two bizarre and non-inner connected plots going at the same time, and had absolutely no plot absolution at the end. But-- it was shot in the most beautiful and artful way. The filming was exquisite. The rest? Not so much. Not even at all. So where am I going with this? Where do I always go with things like this?

Life, of course. Life sometimes has this interesting way of reminding us that parts of it can be like that long, confusing, beautiful cinematography film. You think there’s no plot, no rhyme or reason to what’s been going on in your life... and yet, the hand of God is there, orchestrating everything. Even if it is unseen, or still to be revealed to you. You may get to glance back later and see that everything was working together according to His will. And how fantastic that will be! You just have to let go.

Let go of the past. Let go of trying to figure things out that you just can’t figure out. Sometimes the plot doesn’t make sense. But the good news is: There’s always a plot. Isn’t that wonderful? The intention is always there, you know that. The director obviously made the film for a reason, never mind that it’s totally unclear to you, though. God has a plan for you. Has a reason for making you and creating this story you’re in right now. Maybe it just seems long and drawn out for some reason.

Maybe you sort of fell asleep on the couch of your life for a few minutes or hours, and completely missed it.
Maybe you had the sound turned down.
Maybe you were distracted too much by other things (yeah, your cell phone. Facebook) to catch the subtleties in the plot to see what it’s all about.
Maybe you...
Maybe.

Life is not a movie. A movie is not life. But everyone has that story, that plot. Secret or not. You just have to look for what the Director is trying to say with what He’s given you, and trust that, in the end, He’ll have completed His beautifully shot work. In you.
